DT at Harbury

Our Design Technology (DT) curriculum is designed to inspire creativity, practicality, and innovation. We aim to equip students with the skills to design and create solutions for real-world problems, considering the needs of others and promoting sustainability. By connecting DT with subjects like Mathematics, Science, Computing, and Art, we ensure our students gain well-rounded knowledge that prepares them for future challenges. Additionally, we emphasize the importance of Food Technology, teaching vital life skills, healthy eating, and cultural appreciation through the exploration of different cuisines.

Our DT curriculum follows National Curriculum guidelines and uses hands-on activities, demonstrations, and group discussions to develop skills in areas like textiles, mechanisms, structures, and food. We utilize structured booklets to guide learning and assessment, while cross-curricular links with other subjects enhance students' understanding. Food Technology lessons include topics such as nutrition, food preparation, and cultural diversity, ensuring that each year group builds essential cooking skills and an appreciation for different diets and cuisines.

By regularly assessing student progress, we ensure that each child develops practical skills, critical thinking, and a deeper understanding of sustainability and healthy living. Our DT curriculum aims to inspire critical thinking, independence, and a love for lifelong learning - helping students become responsible and culturally aware citizens.
